about

"How Can I Keep My Path is a meditation on the second stanza of Psalm 119 (BETH). King David is singing about how much he loves God's Word and how it's the only thing he wants. He wants it so bad it keeps him up at night.

Let me level with you: I wrote this song, and it has haunted me for as long as we've been working on this recording. Why? This line: "Your ways are fully my delight, more than silver and gold." I could almost cry even now. God has used this song to ask me where I think my treasure to be. Is it in the wonderful ways of my God? As He has lovingly displayed in His Word and in Jesus? Or is it in all my stuff, all my projects, my security?

Christians believe a crazy thing. It's not just that there is a real God, but that there is ONE real God. And not just that there is one real God, but that He SPEAKS. He has given us His Word through those who were carried along in the Spirit to write it down. And He has given it to us in a person! God's message of love for lost people became a man and dwelt among us.

Thank God that Jesus has come to delight in and obey God's Word on my behalf! I know, because of that, that I can sing this song with a full heart and say, "Lord, I believe! Help my unbelief!" I can trust God to continue to transform my deepest desires until the day I stand face to face with the One I truly long for. " -Stephen Gordon

lyrics

How Can I Keep My Path
Psalm 119:9-16
Written by Stephen Gordon.

Oh Lord how can I keep my path
Free from the stain of sin?
I guard it as your Word commands
And store Your truth within
With my whole heart I long for you
Oh let me never stray
From perfect laws of righteousness
But let me see your face

Oh blessed be the God of grace!
Who gives his Holy Word
Oh may our hearts sing of
And tell the truth we’ve heard
Your laws, on them I fix my mind
My eyes upon your ways
Delighting in your perfect will,
Such grace for all my days
Your ways are fully my delight
More than silver and gold
I think upon them in the night
what riches yet untold

Oh blessed be the God of grace!
Who gives his Holy Word
Oh may our hearts sing of
And tell the truth we’ve heard
I fix my mind upon Your laws
My eyes upon your ways
Delighting in your will,
Such grace for all my days

Oh Lord, your Word made flesh has come
In Jesus Christ our King
Delighting in your perfect will
He kept your law complete
